Cráneo sobremodelado Sepik - Iatmul
Estos curiosos y vistosos cráneos de ancestros o antepasados, se realizan con arcilla roja policromada con pigmentos naturales (se cree que los patrones dibujados son diseño o aprobados por el propio difunto), se utilizan también conchas a modo de ojos y pelo humano.
Estas piezas no son realizadas por los parientes, sino por el artesano más hábil y son un objeto ritual funerario del conjunto de aldeas del área del río Sepik medio en Papúa Nueva Guinea, que comienza después de la muerte y una vez el cuerpo ha sido procesado, llorado y enterrado; acabado todo el proceso, se lleva por el pueblo y se llora una vez más de diversas maneras.

Sepik - Iatmul overmodeled Skull
These curious and striking ancestor skulls are made from polychrome red clay with natural pigments (it is believed that the patterns drawn are designed or approved by the deceased themselves), shells are also used as eyes and human hair.
These pieces are not made by relatives, but by the most skilled craftsman and are a funerary ritual object of the group of villages in the area of the middle Sepik River in Papua New Guinea, which begins after death and once the body has been processed, mourned and buried; once the whole process is finished, it is carried around the village and mourned once again in various ways.
